FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT: Perform psychological evaluations as a panel diagnostician for Superior Court of Ventura County, for Children and Family Services, for the Public Defender, for the Juvenile Court, the California Appellate Project, and for private attorneys. Expert witness in sanity, competency, juvenile fitness, sex offender, sexual predator, dangerousness, and traumatic stress issues. Expert witness in over 20 capital cases. Expert testimony in Fresno, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties. Medico-legal consultation for both plaintiff and defense, disability and personal injury cases. Listed in the Expert Witness Resource Bank and National Clearinghouse for the Defense of Battered Women. Evaluator for the Sex Offender Commitment Program, California Department of Mental Health, 2002-2005.
TEACHING: Teaching forensic psychology to probation officers, juvenile court judges (California Center for Judicial Education and Research), California State District Attorneys Association, and California State Public Defenders Association. Topics included “Understanding Psychological Assessment,” “Evaluation of Dangerousness,” “Sex Offender Dynamics and Treatment,” and daylong classes in the theory and practice of psychological testing, including MMPI, Rorschach, and intelligence testing. CONSULTATION: April 2008-present Manage panel of psychologist evaluators for Children and Family Services, Health Services Agency, County of Ventura. Liaison with social workers, attorneys, and Dependency Court.
May 1981- 1986: Staff/Senior Staff Psychologist, Corrections Services Agency, Ventura County, California.
Performed psychological evaluations of adolescents and adults as part of pre-sentence investigation of Superior Court cases. Evaluated dangerousness, recommended appropriate placement for adolescent offenders, designed treatment plans for probationers, case conferenced difficult cases with probation officers. Testified as expert witness, consulted with both Public Defender and District Attorney staffs. Provided training to local District Attorney’s office. Managed specialist consultant budget. Supervised psychology interns on forensic rotation. Consulted on program reorganization of Colston Youth Center, a local long‑term residential program for adolescent offenders, especially the treatment component.
September 1980-May 1981 : Psychology Intern, Ventura County Mental Health, Ventura, California.
Performed individual and group psychotherapy for chronically mentally ill patients in a day treatment center. Organized daylong seminar for families and friends of chronically mentally ill persons including information on psychopharmacology, community resources, and family coping skills. Provided group therapy for adolescent female incest survivors for Parents United, an organization designed to facilitate family reunification after incest. Reorganized waiting list procedures for Simi Valley Children’s Mental Health. Performed psychological evaluations of children and adolescents. Worked as a triage person at the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit, planning treatment for acutely mentally ill.
